Below are our scheduled lane configurations due to scheduled maintenance work. Schedule times are approximate and may change without notice due to operational needs and inclement weather. In addition, there may be times when an unexpected or unscheduled lane closure occurs. Always obey speed restrictions when driving through work zones.

 Monday-Friday:

Pedestrian Walkway


South Walkway: OPEN
 North Walkway: CLOSED

Walt Whitman Bridge

 

Tuesday-Friday:

  • 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. -- 4 lanes to PA; 2 lanes to NJ

Commodore Barry Bridge

 

Monday-Friday:

  • 9:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. -- 1 lane to PA; 2 lanes to NJ

 

Daily Intermittent Stoppages
Effective Monday, September 30, 2024, traffic stoppages will occur in both directions (eastbound and westbound) for 15 minute intervals, 2-3 times daily between the hours of 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. due to the installation of steel plates.

Wide Load Restrictions
Effective Monday, October 13, 2025, there will be a Wide Load Restriction in place on the Commodore Barry Bridge. ALL oversized and overweight trucks are restricted from crossing the Commodore Barry Bridge in both directions until further notice.

Commodore Barry Bridge Painting Project
A significant, multi-year, $220-million rehabilitation project is now underway to preserve and enhance the Commodore Barry Bridge, a critical transportation link between Chester, PA and Bridgeport, NJ. In 2024, the bridge carried 15.1 million vehicles, averaging over 41,000 daily crossings. Slated for completion in early 2028, this extensive project aims to prevent steel deterioration and ensure the long-term safety and reliability of the bridge for years to come. Learn more.
