DRPA Wishes the Red Bull Philly Flugtag Flyers Good Luck and Godspeed;
Agency Also Appeals to Spectators to Enjoy Flugtag Safely
The Delaware River Port Authority will become the Delaware River Air-Port Authority when the Red Bull Flugtag returns to the Camden waterfront on Saturday morning.
“We will turn our attention from the river to the sky and offer our intrepid Flugtag flyers a heartfelt message: Good Luck and Godspeed,” said DRPA CEO John J. Matheussen. “I can say without fear of overstatement that Flugtag aviators are braver than the great Charles Lindbergh. At least his plane was airworthy.”
In order to keep the skies around the Ben Franklin Bridge safe, the DRPA would like to remind Flugtag spectators of the following:
• Alcoholic beverages will be not permitted on the Ben Franklin Bridge pedestrian access ramps or walkways. DRPA police will be on hand to enforce the ban.
• The bridge’s south pedestrian access stairway in Camden can become congested during Flugtag. Event spectators are advised to walk patiently, carefully and with one hand on the railing as they climb up and down the steps. In order to relieve pedestrian traffic, the DRPA will open the less-crowded north walkway on Saturday between noon and 4 p.m.
• The RiverLink Ferry, which runs between Penn’s Landing in Philadelphia and the Susquehanna Bank Center in Camden, will provide non-stop naval support for Flugtag flyers and fans. Alcoholic beverages will not be permitted on the ferry. DRPA police will be stationed on the ferry to enforce the ban and protect passengers.
“We want everyone to arrive safe, leave safe and enjoy a wonderful time in between,” Matheussen said. “Observing these few, commonsense rules should protect everyone’s safety without compromising Flugtag fun.”
