PATCO Maintenance Work In The Collingswood Area

The PATCO High Speed Line's viaduct project came to the Collingswood area on the weekend of August 11. Work is taking place in the vicinity of PATCO's Collingswood Station. Workers are replacing the fasteners that are directly attached to the concrete guideway deck and that support the running rails on which the train wheels travel. The existing fasteners, which hold the track in place, date back to PATCO's opening in 1969. The viaduct project requires demolition of the concrete deck and jack-hammering. Work is expected to be performed on weekends only from 10 p.m. Friday through 4 a.m. Monday. Residents can expect to hear compressor noise, trucks and equipment pouring concrete throughout the weekend. In addition, workers on the line and train operators will be following "stop and proceed" rules for project safety. This requires the train operator to sound a horn as the train approaches the construction area to make workers aware of the train's approach. In response, the workers will blow a short air horn signal letting the train operator know that the line has been cleared and it is safe for the train to proceed. The train operator will sound the horn one last time to acknowledge that the signal was received. During this work, portions of the parking lot at Collingswood Station will be closed. If you park your car at Collingswood Station during the weekends, please take notice of the areas that will be closed during construction times. Customers who have questions may contact PATCO directly at 856-772-6900. In addition to the PATCO High Speed Line, the Delaware River Port Authority owns and operates the Benjamin Franklin, Walt Whitman, Commodore Barry and Betsy Ross bridges. It also owns and operates the RiverLink Ferry and Philadelphia Cruise Terminal at Pier.
