PATCO LINDENWOLD CONTROL CENTER

Project Overview

This project involves the construction of a modern control center for PATCO, located within the Lindenwold Shop and Yard Complex. The new facility will replace PATCO's original Center Tower, which was built in 1969 above a traction-power substation in Camden. The Center Tower was historically constrained by the use of copper control cabling, which connected it to the original Bridge Line and was limited by distance. With PATCO's recent transition to fiber-optic cabling, communications can now extend the entire length of the PATCO line without these restrictions, allowing greater flexibility in the control center's location.

The new control center will be strategically positioned within the Lindenwold Complex, enhancing security by moving it away from the potential hazards associated with being located above a power substation. The facility will feature state-of-the-art technology and improved accommodations for PATCO support staff and management. The first floor will house office space for Transit Services personnel, while the second floor will be dedicated to the control center and staff currently operating out of Center Tower.

Once complete, Center Tower will serve as an emergency backup control center. The total project cost is estimated at $19,434,000.

Award-Winning Project

The project is a recipient of the "2024 New Jersey's Leading Capital Construction Project Award" from the New Jersey Alliance for Action.
