Leadership in Action: DRPA & PATCO Celebrated at Rutgers Gala

The Delaware River Port Authority (DRPA) is proud to announce that John T. Hanson, CEO of DRPA and President of PATCO, was recently one of five individuals honored with a 2024 Distinguished Leadership Award at the Rutgers Alfredo & Gloria Bonilla Santiago Endowed Scholarship Gala. The event, hosted by the Rutgers Community Leadership Center, took place on December 5, 2024, at the Crystal Tea Room in Philadelphia.

This recognition highlights the vital role DRPA and PATCO play in connecting people and communities throughout the region. Mr. Hanson, in his acceptance speech, credited the award to the dedicated individuals who make DRPA and PATCO’s mission possible.

“At DRPA and PATCO, we connect people. Using our four bridges and the PATCO Transit Line, we connect people to jobs, mentors, schools, medical care, loved ones and the arts,” said Hanson.

“The individuals of DRPA and PATCO work hard every day to keep the bridges and the trains safe, serviceable, and secure. Our people are the heart and soul of DRPA and PATCO, and I believe the work they do every day is worthy of accolades and honors. So, on behalf of our people, our Board of Commissioners and the men and woman who work hard on the bridges and train line every day, I gratefully and humbly accept this award.”

As neighbors to Rutgers-Camden and the Leap Academy in downtown Camden, DRPA and PATCO share a commitment to building stronger, more connected communities.

In addition to Mr. Hanson, other honorees included:

  • Madeline Bell, President & CEO of Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP)
  • AJ Mattia, President, AJM Industries
  • Josen Rossi, Managing Partner, Aireko Companies
  • Rory Maradonna, Director of Campus Programs, Rutgers University School of Business Camden

We extend our congratulations to Mr. Hanson and the other distinguished awardees. Our thanks to the Rutgers Community Leadership Center for this meaningful recognition, which celebrates the unwavering dedication of the entire DRPA and PATCO team. Together, we remain committed to making a lasting difference in the lives of the people and communities we proudly serve.
