DRPA Police Reminds Drivers & Passengers To Buckle Up

"Click It or Ticket" Campaign Urges Seat Belt Use Every Ride

The Delaware River Port Authority (DRPA) Police Department and other law enforcement professionals from across the United States are reminding drivers to "Click It or Ticket."

The national seat belt campaign, which coincides with the Memorial Day holiday, runs from May 20 to June 2, 2024.

"As connectors of New Jersey and Pennsylvania, the DRPA Police Department is committed to safety throughout our region. Our top priority is getting our commuters from point A to point B safely," DRPA Police Lt. Sean Longfellow said.

DRPA police efforts will focus on stepping up enforcement of New Jersey's primary seat belt law and on educating motorists about the importance of buckling up in moving vehicles.

The goal of the "Click It or Ticket" campaign is to motivate drivers to use their seat belts every time they get in the vehicle and to promote awareness of the costly consequences that go far beyond a ticket.

"Click It or Ticket" was launched in North Carolina in 1993.

"The DRPA Police Department will continue to engage in these programs and assist our community partners in making our region as safe as it can be for our commuters," added Longfellow. "While there are dangers in our daily commutes, seat belts are proven to be the best safety tool we have. Please continue to buckle up for yourself, your family and drive safely."

On Monday, May 20, 2024, Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia hosted a kick-off event for the nationwide "Click It or Ticket" campaign, aimed at encouraging drivers to wear seat belts. The event was attended by the PennDOT, the Pennsylvania State Police, the Philadelphia Police Department, the New Jersey Division of Highway Traffic Safety, the Delaware State Police (DSP), the DRPA Police Department, and AAA Mid-Atlantic. The campaign runs through June 2 and aims to enforce nationwide seat belt usage. The photo above features the Phillie Phanatic alongside DRPA Police Officers at the event.
