Water Supply Testing On Walt Whitman Bridge To Include Fire, Police Vehicles Stationed On Bridge
As the result of standpipe testing on the Walt Whitman Bridge, motorists will notice fire and police emergency vehicles on the bridge between the hours of 9:30 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 29, 2021.
In addition, two lanes on the Walt Whitman Bridge will be closed during this non-emergency testing phase.
Fire officials with both the Philadelphia Fire Department, as well as the Gloucester City Fire Department will be stationed on the bridge, which will require fire equipment to be positioned on the bridge to familiarize first responders with the new system.
As part of the testing, two lanes on the bridge will be closed during the duration. Two eastbound lanes and two westbound lanes will remain open. Motorists are reminded to stay alert, exercise caution and obey speed limits when traveling through the testing zone.
The testing is scheduled to be completed by 2:00 p.m.
The new standpipe systems were installed on the Pennsylvania and New Jersey anchorages as part of the Walt Whitman Anchorage Preservation Project.
