Delaware River Port Authority Recognized for Excellence in Financial Reporting

Earns Government Finance Officers Association Award for 28th Consecutive Year

Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) has awarded the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting to the Delaware River Port Authority (DRPA) for its comprehensive annual financial report for the fiscal year ended December 31, 2019. An impartial panel has judged the latest report to meet the program’s high standards, which includes demonstrating a constructive “spirit of full disclosure” to clearly communicate its financial story and motivate potential users and user groups to read the report. The award marks the twenty-eighth consecutive year the agency was recognized for financial transparency.

“The Certificate of Achievement is the highest form of recognition in the area of governmental accounting and financial reporting, and its attainment represents a significant accomplishment by a government and its management,” said Michele Mark Levine, Director, Technical Services, GFOA.

The GFOA advances excellence in government finance by providing best practices, professional development, resources, and practical research for more than 21,000 members and the communities they serve.

“We are honored to be nationally recognized for our financial success story," James M. White, DRPA Chief Financial Officer. “For over a decade the DRPA has strategically improved its financial performance through effective management practices, sound investments, strong expenditure controls, and efficient operations. Even in the midst of the current pandemic the DRPA is continually monitoring its operational and capital expenditures to keep the DRPA at its strongest possible position. This award speaks to the great work by DRPA/PATCO staff, and the work of the Finance Division in submitting, for the 28th consecutive year, an award-winning annual report.”

The GFOA established the program to encourage state and local governments to go beyond the minimum requirements of generally accepted accounting principles to prepare comprehensive annual financial reports that evidence the spirit of transparency and full disclosure and then to recognize individual governments that succeed in achieving that goal. The program’s goal is not to assess the financial health of participating governments but rather to ensure that users of their financial statements have the information they need to do so themselves.
