WALT WHITMAN BRIDGE SCHEDULED TO CLOSE BETWEEN 11 P.M. ON JANUARY 11 AND 4 A.M. ON JANUARY 12

Closure Required For Removal Of Overhead Sign Gantry 

The Walt Whitman Bridge is scheduled to close to all traffic for approximately five hours overnight beginning at 11 p.m. on Monday, January 11, 2021.

The closure is necessary for the removal of an overhead sign gantry structure which spans across all lanes on the Walt Whitman Bridge.

The bridge will close at 11 p.m. on Monday, January 11 and will reopen at approximately 4 a.m. on Tuesday, January 12.

Ramps leading to the Walt Whitman Bridge will begin to close at approximately 10 p.m.

Motorists are advised to use nearby Ben Franklin Bridge or the Commodore Barry Bridge as alternatives during the closure. Variable message signs across the region will advise motorists about the closure and detours.

Detour Information for I-76:

  • Motorists traveling on I-76 W towards Pennsylvania: All I-76 W traffic on the New Jersey side will be diverted to I-676 N towards the Ben Franklin Bridge.
  • Motorists traveling on I-76 E towards New Jersey: All I-76 E traffic on the Pennsylvania side will be required to exit at Packer Avenue. Traffic will be detoured east on Packer Avenue to make a left onto Front St. towards the onramp for I-95 N in order to access the Ben Franklin Bridge.
