DRPA PARTICIPANT IN NATIONAL TRAFFIC INCIDENT RESPONSE AWARENESS WEEK
Slow Down. Move Over. Be Safe.
The Delaware River Port Authority (DRPA), in coordination with the Delaware Valley Regional Planning Commission (DVRPC), is joining forces with several other transportation agencies to participate in National Traffic Incident Response Awareness Week.
The campaign’s goal, which runs from November 9th-15th, is to raise public awareness about the dangers emergency responders face at traffic incidents.
Every minute of every day, emergency responders across the country work tirelessly to help save lives at the scene of traffic incidents. Every year, hundreds of emergency responders are struck by other vehicles in the process and are either injured or killed.
The campaign reminds drivers to move over and slow down to protect emergency responders representing fire, law enforcement, emergency medical services, towing, and transportation agencies. Both Pennsylvania and New Jersey have “Move Over Laws,” requiring motorists to “move over” and change lanes to provide greater separation of distance for law enforcement officers or other responders working on roadsides.
