PATCO Receives Award for Elevator Installation Project

Agency recognized for making all 13 PATCO Stations fully accessible

The Port Authority Transit Corporation (PATCO) received an award for its elevator installation project and the accompanying Americans with Disabilities Act upgrades to stations.

PATCO General Manager John Rink and Delaware River Port Authority Chief Engineer Michael Venuto accepted the “New Jersey’s Leading Infrastructure Project” Award on behalf of the Authority from the New Jersey Alliance For Action.

New Jersey Alliance for Action’s award program was created to highlight innovative, pioneering and landmark construction initiatives that greatly impact New Jersey’s economy and to honor the businesses and organizations that work together as partners to ensure the project’s success. The award was presented on February 20, 2020.

The award also recognized PATCO for its Americans with Disabilities Act upgrades that come along with elevator installation project.

NJ Alliance For Action is a non-profit that was created in 1974 and is New Jersey’s most trusted organization focusing on infrastructure and economic growth in the Garden State.

PATCO unveiled its most recent elevator during a ribbon-cutting ceremony at its Haddonfield Station on December 19, 2019.

In 2018, construction began on a $38 million project to install elevators in all currently unequipped PATCO train stations. The Ashland, Haddonfield, Westmont and Collingswood Stations will each receive one elevator, while the City Hall and 12/13th & Locust Stations will have two elevators installed.

Upon completion in 2022, all 13 PATCO stations will be fully accessible to individuals with disabilities and those using wheelchairs, strollers and bicycles.
