DRPA Participates in "Put the Brakes on Fatalities Day"
On October 10, the Delaware River Port Authority (DRPA) will join state and local police departments for “Put the Brakes on Fatalities Day”. This national initiative is designed to unite the country in moving toward zero fatalities for one full day by encouraging safe driving behavior.
“As a regional transportation agency and member of the community, DRPA has a vested interest in the safety of drivers,” said John J. Matheussen, CEO of DRPA and President of PATCO. “Whether it be driving on any one of DRPA’s four bridges or other roadways, if we all make a concerted effort to drive defensively, obey posted speed limits and buckle up, we can make a difference and reduce the number of motor vehicle fatalities.”
In support of “Put the Brakes on Fatalities Day,” DRPA will do its part to remind the public to be more careful while driving. Variable message signs with the message, “Oct. 10 Be Safe, Be Alert, Drive to Arrive,” will be in place at the Benjamin Franklin, Walt Whitman, Commodore Barry and Betsy Ross bridges.
According to DRPA Police Chief, David McClintock, “Clearly, this effort will go a long way in our continuing efforts to stem the tide of tragedies that occur every day on our roadways. Part of this initiative will also include cracking down on drivers who are talking on a hand-held cell phone or texting while driving.”
