Walt Whitman Bridge Redecking Project Advisory

Drivers who regularly use the Walt Whitman Bridge should be aware the long term lane closures connected with the $140 million dollar re-decking project are about to begin.

The first five month lane closure will involve the right hand eastbound lane and that closure is scheduled to begin at 8pm on Wednesday, August 24.

Drivers may want to consider an alternate route on Friday afternoons in the summer or coming home from a game or event at the South Philadelphia sports complex.

The lane closures will move northward one lane at a time and the entire project is expected to take about three years to complete.

First opened to traffic on May 16, 1957, it's time for the region's busiest bridge to get a complete facelift.

Traffic updates are always available at www.drpa.org, www.deckthewalt.com  or the Walt Whitman Bridge Radio station, 530 AM.
