Ben Franklin Bridge April Lighting

Delaware River Port Authority CEO, John J. Matheussen, has announced the Ben Franklin Bridge in April will have special lighting to promote autism awareness, the Gift of Life Donor Program, the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, Earth Day, observe Easter Sunday and support the March of Dimes "March for Babies".

For most of April the bridge will have green lighting for National Donate for Life Month sponsored by the Gift of Life Donor Program.  The Gift of Life Donor Program helps 13 area transplant centers in the eastern half of Pennsylvania, southern New Jersey and the State of Delaware where heart, kidney, lung, liver and pancreas transplants are performed.  For further information on this program visit www.donors1.org

On April 1 the bridge will be blue for autism awareness.  Autism Speaks has grown into the nation’s largest science and advocacy organization, dedicated to funding research into the causes, prevention, treatments and a cure for autism; including awareness of autism spectrum disorders; and advocating for the needs of individuals will autism and their families.  For more information on the organization, please visit www.AutismSpeaks.org.

On April 4 the bridge will have purple lighting to observe Easter Sunday.

On April 17 the bridge will have orange lighting as the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals observes Animal Cruelty Prevention Month. The ASPCA was the first humane organization in the Western Hemisphere.  Their mission, as stated by their founded, Henry Bergh, in 1866, is “to provide effective means for the prevention of cruelty to animals throughout the United States.”  Visit  www.aspca.org for more info.

On April 22 the green bridge will be green in observance of Earth Day.

April 23-25 the bridge will have purple lighting promoting the March of Dimes annual March for Babies to raise money for research to give all babies a healthy start.  The walk takes place on Sunday, April 25 on the Ben Franklin Bridge.
