DRPA's Office of Business Development and Equal Opportunity Holds Contractor Briefing
The Delaware River Port Authority’s Office of Business Development & Equal Opportunity held a briefing today for Minority and Women- owned Business Enterprises interested in the upcoming Walt Whitman Re-decking Project.
The briefing provided contractors with an overview of the Walt Whitman Bridge Re-decking Project and informed potential bidders of the anticipated bid and construction schedule. The briefing also provided interested contactors with an overview of potential subcontracting opportunities.
“The Walt Whitman Bridge Re-decking Project will be the most comprehensive project done at the Walt Whitman since its inception in 1957,” says DRPA CEO John J. Matheussen. “With a project of this magnitude, we are deploying all resources to attract the greatest number of contractors in the region.”
In August of 2007, DRPA began preliminary and final engineering design for the replacement of the original roadway deck on the main suspended spans of the Walt Whitman Bridge. The existing deck on the suspended portion of the span is part of the original construction dating back to the 1950s. The deck is showing normal aging and is nearing the end of its useful life. DRPA is completing final design and will soon be inviting contractors to submit competitive bids for the re-decking construction.
“DRPA has a longstanding commitment to minority and women-owned business enterprises,” says DRPA Chief Administrative Officer Toni Proffitt Brown. “The contractor briefing is just another example of our ongoing effort to help steer DRPA’s spending to a diverse group of businesses.”
DRPA’s Office of Business Development & Equal Opportunity offers a number of supportive services to businesses looking to work with DRPA and PATCO such as a quarterly newsletter, web-based MBE/WBE directory, in-kind training sessions and instant e-notification of projects, bids and meetings.
