Ben Franklin Bridge Honors Holidays And Promotes Cancer Awareness

For most of the month of September the Ben Franklin Bridge will be arrayed in blue and green lighting to support Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month.  The only days the bridge will not be lit in blue and green will be Labor Day, September 1st, and National Constitution Day, September 17th.  On those two days the traditional red, white, and blue lighting will be displayed.

DRPA CEO, John J. Matheussen, says “The DRPA is joining with the Sandy Rollman Ovarian Cancer Foundation and the Southern New Jersey Chapter of the National Ovarian Cancer Coalition to make women aware of the importance of regular medical checkups.”

According to the National Cancer Institute, 21,650 new cases of ovarian cancer will be reported in the United States in 2008.  An estimated 15,520 woman are expected to die from the disease.

The Delaware River Port Authority is a regional transportation agency.  DRPA owns and operates the Benjamin Franklin, Walt Whitman, Commodore Barry and Betsy Ross Bridges, and PATCO, the Philadelphia Cruise Terminal and the RiverLink Ferry.
