Summer Begins Labor Day Weekend When Cruisephilly Kicks Off Its Season With Sailings To Bermuda

CruisePhilly kicks off its 2008 season Labor Day Weekend, Saturday, August 30, when the Norwegian Majesty makes its first sailing from the Philadelphia Cruise Terminal. As many residents are enjoying the unofficial last weekend of summer at the Shore, CruisePhilly passengers are just starting their summer beginning with the pink beaches of Bermuda.

This season marks the first year the Norwegian Majesty will sail its fall season from Philadelphia.  The Norwegian Cruise Lines' (NCL) ship accommodates 1,462 passengers and offers a broad array of amenities, including NCL's popular Freestyle dining program and a multitude of entertainment, spa, and fitness options. NCL is also the only cruise line offering passengers three days in port in Bermuda.

"We welcome Norwegian Cruise Lines to Philadelphia and we look forward to a successful 2008 season," said John J. Matheussen, CEO of the DRPA, the parent agency of the Port of Philadelphia and Camden. "We hope regional residents will take advantage of the opportunity to enjoy a second summer and sail with us."

Philadelphia continues to be a popular choice for regional residents for convenience, affordability and customer service.  The Philadelphia Cruise Terminal consistently receives high marks from passengers, with a positive overall experience rating from more than 90 percent of those surveyed.

"Cruising from the Philadelphia Cruise Terminal for Philadelphians is like cruising from their own backyards." said Kate McNamara, Director of the Port of Philadelphia and Camden. "There's no need for a long drive to get their vacation started. Cruising is just as close as a Phillies game or a fall trip to the Linc."

The Majesty begins its Philadelphia season with five seven-day trips to Bermuda, calling on the picturesque port of St. George.  While in port, guests can enjoy a number of shore excursions from an Adventure Cave Tour offering a hands-on experience of the caves of the Island's East End, to the Dolphin Dip allowing tourists to enjoy a rare opportunity to swim with dolphins.

Bermuda is only the beginning of cruising options from the Philadelphia Cruise Terminal this season. The Norwegian Majesty will also be making seven day sailings to Canada and New England departing four consecutive Saturdays beginning October 4th. The Majesty closes out its Philadelphia season November 1st with a grand 14-day repositioning cruise through the sunny heart of the Southern Caribbean.
