DRPA Holds Expo for Minority/Women Business Enterprises
The Delaware River Port Authority continues to lead the way in utilizing the services of Minority and Women Business Enterprises (MBE/WBE). To further this effort, DRPA’s Office of Business Development and Equal Opportunity held a Vendor Expo today at the Philadelphia Cruise Terminal. MBE/WBE vendors, who accept MasterCard, were encouraged to attend. Participants met with DRPA staff to showcase their commodities, and/or services.
“DRPA has a longstanding commitment to minority and women-owned business enterprises,” said DRPA Chief Executive Officer John J. Matheussen. “Each year we strive to award, on a competitive basis, at least 10 percent of our contracts and purchases to disadvantaged, minority and women-owned businesses.”
DRPA has made great strides in increasing the number of contracts awarded to minority, women and disadvantaged businesses. From 1989 to 1993, before outreach efforts began, minority, women and disadvantaged businesses’ share of DRPA spending totaled just $2 million. Since 1994, DRPA and PATCO have paid more than $185 million to minority, women and disadvantaged businesses.
“DRPA’s program for vendor diversity has helped steer DRPA’s spending to a diverse group of businesses without the use of set-asides, price preferences, or loss of quality goods or services,” said DRPA’s Deputy Chief of Business Development & Equal Opportunity Toni Proffitt Brown.
DRPA’s Office of Business Development and Equal Opportunity offers a number of support services to businesses looking to work with DRPA such as a quarterly newsletter, MBE/WBE directory, in-kind training sessions and instant notification of projects, bids and meetings.
