DRPA Welcomes Olympic Gymnasts To Philadelphia

The Delaware River Port Authority is welcoming to the region over 2,000 people taking part in the U.S. Olympic Gymnastic Team trials.

The Ben Franklin Bridge will be arrayed in red, white and blue decorative lighting from June 15th to June 22nd.

The competition will be at the Wachovia Center from June 19th to June 22nd. The preliminaries are scheduled for June 19th and 20th with the finals scheduled for June 21st and 22nd. The finals will be broadcast live on NBC.

The winners will qualify for the U.S. Olympic Gymnastic team and compete this summer in Beijing, China.

DRPA CEO, John J. Matheussen, says “it’s an honor for the region to play host to this world class event. It’s hoped the lighting of the Ben Franklin Bridge representing the Olympic colors of the United States adds to the spirit of the competition.”

Those attending the event can take PATCO to the 12th/13th and Locust station and follow the signs in the concourse to the Broad Street Line and take the Subway south to the Wachovia Center.

The Delaware River Port Authority is a regional transportation agency. DRPA owns and operates the Benjamin Franklin, Walt Whitman, Commodore Barry and Betsy Ross Bridges, and PATCO, the Philadelphia Cruise Terminal and the RiverLink Ferry.
