DRPA Police Chief Graduates from Elite FBI National Academy

Chief Edward W. Cobbs, Jr.  completes rigorous 10-week program, bringing advanced leadership and best practices back to the region

The Delaware River Port Authority (DRPA) and the Delaware River Port Authority Police Department (DRPA PD) proudly announce that Police Chief Edward W. Cobbs, Jr. has graduated from the FBI National Academy, completing its 297th session at the FBI National Academy in Quantico, Virginia.

Chief Cobbs is the sixth officer in department history to complete this prestigious program. Nationally, fewer than one percent of law enforcement officers are nominated and selected to attend the FBI National Academy.

The 297th session included 253 law enforcement executives representing 48 states, the District of Columbia, and 24 countries, as well as participants from military and federal civilian organizations. Internationally recognized for its academic excellence, the FBI National Academy provides 10 weeks of advanced training in leadership, communication, and physical fitness. Participants are selected based on demonstrated professionalism and leadership within their agencies, with attendees averaging more than two decades of law enforcement experience.

“It was an honor to learn alongside law enforcement leaders from agencies around the world,” said Chief Cobbs. “The knowledge, perspectives, and shared experiences gained through the FBI National Academy are invaluable, and I look forward to applying these best practices to strengthen our organization and better serve the communities we protect.”

Chief Cobbs serves as Chief of Police for the Delaware River Port Authority Police Department, providing overall leadership and strategic direction for the agency. He leads a department responsible for protecting the Authority’s bridges, transit system, and facilities across Pennsylvania and New Jersey. His selection to attend the Academy reflects his ongoing commitment to professional development and advancing best practices in law enforcement.

The DRPA Police Department provides 24/7, year-round policing across a complex, bi-state system that includes four major Delaware River bridges, the PATCO High Speedline and its 14 stations, and surrounding roadways and facilities in Pennsylvania and New Jersey. Officers handle tens of thousands of calls for service annually and work closely with local, state, and federal partners to ensure the safety and security of the region’s critical transportation infrastructure.

“We are proud of Chief Cobbs for this accomplishment, and it is a point of pride for our entire organization,” said DRPA CEO John T. Hanson. “His graduation from the FBI National Academy reflects the caliber of leadership within our Police Department and reinforces our commitment to providing the highest level of safety and security across the region.”
